How to pass your MOT!
Follow this guide and pass your MOT with flying colours!
STEP 1: HeadLights and Indicators
One of the most important things people tend to over look is the headlights and indicators
This is really easy to check on a most recent model car due to the fact that most of time
it will flag up on the dash board.
On an older model unfortunatly you will have to check this for yourself.
If you do not have someone to check this for you whilst you are in the drivers seat what you can do is go up to a shop front where there is a reflective window. Check the headlights in the reflection and you should be able to see the then if the bulb is missing or not. This is really a simple and straight forward check. If one of your bulbs is missing or not in working order then you will without a doubt fail your mot. Ensure this is checked before you take your mot test.
Step 2: The BreakLights
An obvious one for most people is the breaklights.
We need these every single day.
Generally you should not have a breaklight that is not working. Ensure the breaklights is working before you go for your mot.
Step 3: The Registration Plate
The registration must be present, clean and visible. For custom number plates ensure it has the origonal plate.
Step 4: Seat and seatbelt
Ensure driver and passenger seat and seatbelt is not wobbly before you go for the mot.
The fixure of the seatbelt should not be loose or wobbly in any way
Step 5: Windscreen and windscreen wipers
Windsreen should not have any cracks or damage. If the windscreen does have any chips
the limit is normally around 1 cm. If the chip is over 1cm then you could be looking at failing your mot.
The windscreen wipers: If the windcreen wipers smear water over your windon then it is time to change the wipers.
Step 6: Oil and fuel
The thing that keeps your car running is the oil and the fuel. As a driver you should be checking the oil quite regulary indeed.
All you need to do is lift the dipstick , clean it off with a rag, pop it back in and check the oil line. If its low then top it up.
step 7: Windscreenwash
Before you go to your mot always topup the windscreen wash. If the garage have to top it up for you then they may or may not charge you
Conclusion
It is well worth following all these steps if you want to pass your mot.
It is better to take the time and follow each of these steps properly and pass your mot the first time and save money. If you do not follow these steps then you are most likely to fail and pay out again.
